How To Make …. Stylish, Eco Friendly Wedding Invitations with Handmade Paper, Silk Ribbon and Wax Seals
Here's a design from our new member of staff ....... Courtney.
If you're like me and love natural products, this is the perfect invitation for you. It's really easy to make and kind to the environment too. Courtney used handmade paper and card, silk ribbon and a wax seal. The complimentary neutral colours create a really restful but totally chic impression. One of the things I love the most is that is doesn't just look good, it also FEELS amazing. The different textures add a real sense of luxury and style.
Although Courtney designed this using really neutral colours, it's super easy to customised. Just change the card colour, ribbon or wax.
So here goes ...... lets see how its made.
For Each Invitation You Will Need:
1 x sheet of A5 handmade card in White. (click here)
1 x sheet of 5 x 7 handmade paper in Natural (click here)
60cm of Closed edge Silk Ribbon in Natural. (click here)
1.5 x Warm Gold Wax Beads. (click here)
1 x Fauna Wax Stamp. (click here)
High Tack Double Sided Tape. (click here)

So Here Are The Instructions…
WAX SEAL
- Before you start making your invitations, it's helpful to make all the wax seals that you will need. This may take a little time but it's worth the effort. There are 2 ways you can do this.
You can use a wax melting spoon and tealight. This is the cheapest method but is quite time consuming. (watch the video at the end if yo'd like to learn how to do this).
OR you can purchase a low temperature glue gun and use wax sticks instead of wax beads. This is much quicker and more efficient but it does come at a cost. (watch the video at the end if yo'd like to learn how to do this)
AND NOW .....
- Use the edge of a ruler to tear the 5 x 7 handmade paper to the following size (roughly):
12.5cm x 17.5cm. You will need to hold the ruler against the paper and tear the paper away using the ruler as a guide. You can watch the video at the end of the post to help you along. - Print your invitations onto the paper you have just torn down to size.
- Once your invitations are printed, use high tack tape to attach it to the centre of the A5 handmade card. Make sure the borders are even. You will need to use a lot of high tack tape to make sure you get a secure bond (i.e. all around the outside edges and across the centre horizontally and vertically.
- Use high tack tape to stick the wax seal in place on the invitation panel.
- Place your ribbon on a flat surface and put your invitation in the centre. Fold both ends of the ribbon in towards the front and tie a knot. Holding the knot in place, tie a neat bow Watch the video at the end of this post if you'd like to learn how to easily tie a bow. Use a scissors to cut the ends of the ribbon into an inverted V shape.
And you're done. You've just made your own very stylish, eco friendly wedding invitation!!!
